Recent Completions: Lou Furlong & Dr. Gick
Merritt Island, FL
Father and son team Lou Furlong (Jr. &
Sr.) recently finished the assembly of their new Comp Air 6. Their airplane is gorgeous: a
beautiful airplane complete with deluxe leather upholstery, and full IFR digital
electronic avionics. Both men are commercial pilots with many years of experience in a
wide variety of airplanes.
Furlongs Comp Air 6 is a tailwheel, constant chord wing version, and is powered with a 260 hp Lycoming IO-540. The men plan on mounting the airplane on a set of amphibious SuperFloats later this year.
Reported cruise performance at 65% power is 165 mph IAS. Wide open top speed is about 200 mph (173 knots).
Congratulations to both men -- great job!!
Another airplane nearly ready for test-flying is owned by Dr. Gick of Pennsylvania. Gicks Comp Air 6 should be flying by the time you read this. His airplane has tricycle gear, and is powered with a Lycoming O-540.
Gick started his airplane in the Sky Build Aircraft Builders Center, then finished it at home in Pennsylvania. Once it was nearly complete, he brought it back to Merritt Island, FL where he completed the final assembly and had the fuselage painted (wings had been painted at home).
The airplane is scheduled to be test-flown by factory pilots during the next few weeks.
