New Comp Air 10 Turboprop Floatplane Delivers Performance
Merritt Island, Florida - May 1, 2000
Just Imagine...
An affordable high performance floatplane capable of
cruising at 12,000 to 18,000 feet, at speeds of 160 to 185 mph TAS, with
enough room to carry up to 8 adults and their bags, in comfort and style.
Too good to be true? Not so... Comp Air LLC's new kit-built Comp Air 10 does all that and more. First introduced at EAA Sun 'n Fun 2000 in Florida (April), this new floatplane is now flying regularly at the factory's home base in Merritt Island, FL.

The Comp Air 10 is easily distinguished by its unique twin-vertical tail. At 31' 10" in length, the Comp Air 10XL is 2 feet longer than the company's Comp Air 7 turboprop, which has been proving popular among landplane pilots looking for a roomy airplane with outstanding performance. The Comp Air 10 is a big airplane -- designed to take full advantage of the 660 hp Czech-built Walter turboprop's outstanding load-carrying capability. Boasting 243 square feet of wing area, it is ideally suited for the Walter 601D powerplant. With a roomy cabin (13 feet x 5 feet inside dimensions), the Comp Air 10XL can easily carry up to 6000 lb. gross weight, with a useful load of 2400 to 3000 lbs.

:Although the Comp Air 10 is designed to cruise at 185 to 210 mph TAS in it's landplane configuration, it is also capable of slowing down to fly alongside Champs and Cessna 150's in the local airport traffic pattern. The low stall speed of 45 to 50 mph IAS results in an airplane with outstanding short and rough field capability that is able to carry large loads at respectable cruise speeds. Equipped with floats, the airplane still has a stall speed in the 50's, and achieves an impressive economy cruise speed of
160 to 185 mph TAS.Because the Comp Air 10 is intended as a utility-class load-carrying airplane, specially reinforced (carbon) fuselage and tail group members are included as standard features on the Comp Air 10.
As with all Comp Air kit-built airplanes, total fuel capacity is determined by the builder, who has the option of installing fuel tanks capable of carrying as much as 180 gallons.
