Before laminating, all surfaces are cleaned with acetone. The
acetone softens the primary laminates, promoting superior secondary bonding.
A
freshly-laid spar cap laminate is applied immediately prior to final installation of the
top skin. The skin is permanently bonded to the spar and rib caps, and to the top of the
fuel tanks.
The
leading edges of the top and bottom skins are then laminated together with a series of
overlay laminates. Yes - a couple inches of gelcoat along the seam must be removed prior
to laminating. This is done with a grinder or sandpaper.
"C-channel"
laminates are used along the full span of the rear spar to bond both top and bottom skins
securely to the rear spar shear web. |
